Gypsy Moth

GYPSY MOTH SPRAY MAPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE SUPERVISOR'S OFFICE

Now is the time for us to begin planning our attack on the Gypsy moth. In the spring, late April-early May, the new caterpillars will emerge from their cocoons and begin feeding on the new leaves forming on our trees.

The best time to spray is in the spring. Because the young caterpillars crawl to the top of the trees for feeding, aerial spraying can be effective. Where aerial spraying is not practical, (less than 10 acres) ground level spraying should take place. The chemical spray is highly regulated and environmentally friendly and, as a result it is not 100% effective.

Ground level spraying of infected trees on your property, or private property, is your responsibility. Our ground level spraying contract will be with Tom Prudden, The Care of Trees at (815) 477-4414. You may contact him directly, or call here for any questions.
