Several articles have been written which justify the technical and financial aspects of the Townships existence. What often goes unnoticed though is how the Townships services affect the lives of all whom live here, in a very positive way. Townships provide for counseling and financial help in times of need thru its General Assistance funds program. Townships often provide locally grown vegetables and food contributions to help replenish the local food pantries in our area. Townships participate in and support many local programs for the scouts, handicapped and seniors, providing meeting space and transportation. Townships help protect us from viruses that are transferred by infected mosquitoes thru effective abatement and larva siding programs and help protect our trees against the devastating affects of the Gypsy Moth. Townships provide facilities for our enjoyment and recreation by supporting and maintaining the parks and buildings in its service area. Townships provide road maintenance and work as partners with unincorporated subdivisions to help upgrade their roads. Many times, especially when sever weather hits, the Townships road personal are there to assist. Townships can provide a final resting place for its residents. These plots can be purchased for a very reasonable fee. Townships provide for the care and maintenance of all its cemeteries. Townships assist in helping provide local voting facilities and help deliver and setup our voting booths. Townships are good stewards of our environment. We are involved in planning for growth and in protecting our natural resources and habitat. Townships work with and help support our local fire departments and help them out in times of disaster. Sure we pay for all of these services thru our property tax contributions, however, I can't think of a better way of spending my tax dollars. We can, thru participation in our Local Town Meetings, direct how our tax dollars are spent and have a say on how our local government operates. Townships are operated by local citizens like you and me. We care. Please continue to support and back our townships. Townships are protecting our future, for future generations to come.
